Essential Elements 2000 for Strings
182. Surprise Symphony Theme
Franz Josef Haydn

This song practices dynamics. I haven't officially been told to learn this one yet, but it's the last learn-a-new-technique song in the book, and my teacher has played it for me to see the dynamics, but he never told me to learn it for the next lesson.

Instead, we switched over to Suzuki book 1. --Which uses all kinds of dynamics!

So I practice this one, because it felt weird to stop playing from the book when there was only one song left!

I still struggle with dynamics, though... But I'm sure future lessons will discuss it in more depth.

It also practices the up-bow staccato (hooked bowing). Hooked bowing is kinda fun. But kinda annoying... Lagato and hooked bowing are the start of me needing to really practice disconnecting my two hands/arms from "doing something different" simultaneously. (Before, you would change bow direction with the right arm, AND change the note with the left hand. Now, with legato, you have to change the note, but NOT change the bow direction. Or with hooked bowing, you have the added weirdness of stopping the bow, but NOT changing the direction!)
