  • Please post some videos of the combat wing chun guys in mma competition.

  • @TheWkendwarrior I already have. You can see my videos antonio graceffo overtime MMA, Sam Chan Overtime MMA, and chan man kong overtime MMA. We had three fighters in Overtime. Sam and I won our fights. Chan Man Kong didnt win BUT he had only one month of training and had NEVER done any martial arts before. he fought like hell and i was very proud of him. not many people have their first MMA fight after only one month of training.

  • the form/footwork demonstrated on the wooden dummy and against the partner would result in you having your balls detached or smashed in a real fight. staying square on forces you to deal with both the opponents hands (instead of taking angles) and leaves your groin open for all types of attacks. this would not work against someone trained in fighting as well.

  • @sifujosh This is pretty standard for wing chun. these guys also fight in MMA competitions and the straight in attack seems to work well to neutralize a striker and take him to the ground quickly.

  • @brooklynmonk1 I see. He should have won if he kept it standing.

  • @OVERCAPITALIZE That is a pretty reasonable statement. remember traditional arts are for self defense, so the assumption is that your opponent may not even expect you to fight back. but when you go in a cage, it's pretty obvious why you are there and the same strikes and locks won't work on a guy who is ready to fight, well trained, experienced, and with adrenaline coursing through his body.

  • @brooklynmonk1 stick with what works :)

  • @ACLogikel

Yeah i agree. Traditional martial arts always work to those who aren't familiar on what your doing.

  • I've always considered the TMA as civilian self defense systems as opposed to the square off toe to toe type fighting.

Simpler less athletic movements that will be typically used against someone who probably doesn't train 6 hours a day and has olympic level athleticism. The typical street thug is probably a drug using cig smoker anyway, I think that TMA were meant to be used against people who generally did not know what you were doing. And as pre-emptive defense methods, not wait, block, etc..

  • shawn obasi should have learned from this guy

  • @brooklynmonk1 "he said relax and punch as if I was walking and then I forgot how to walk."

That pretty much sums up training in the martial arts.

    Walk on!

  • @wchart Thanks, we will be fighting later this month and I will post video.

  • Good stuff!

  • This is great! Very similar to what we do in our branch of WC. Don't feel too bad. Shifting punches take a long time to really master. I have to say also that your ground work looks to be really improving. Hopefully, you can post more on this team. I'd love to see them in a match

Thank you for putting this up.
