More than 1,000 immigrants from more than 100 countries gathered on Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom, Friday, July 3, 2009, to be sworn in as American citizens. The new citizens took the Oath of Allegiance to the United States during a morning ceremony hosted by Disney Parks and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. Actor/director Andy Garcia, a naturalized citizen born in Cuba, addressed the new Americans before many of them previewed the Hall of Presidents, reopening July 4. The attraction has been closed since Election Day last November for a makeover that included installation of a lifelike Audio-Animatronics figure based on President Barack Obama.

  • I love seeing LEGAL immigration.

  • @casey3210 Unless you're native-American, we were all immigrants once. You would most likely be living in the eastern side of the world provided you're immigrants never came here.

Immigrants, believe it or not, help keep this country running.

  • Still hoping to be that - an American immigrant and citizen.

  • @Iyoulikeyoutoo In Disney park, they wouldn't look good being serious.

  • @BarbieMan32 That is very much true. United States is not perfect but it is most definitely the best nation that attracts the highest amount of immigrants from all over the globe. I pray to god that immigrants and American can co-exist for a long time.

  • @BringBakRok It is assigned randomly. Usually the ceremony takes place at school auditorium. Generally speaking, potential citizens from 100 to 150 miles radius come to one center. After this day, immigrants get official permit to say "Americans have no culture"

  • Can you choose to have your naturalization ceremony in disney world? Or is it just randomly assigned?

  • All of these people dreamed of coming to such an amazing country. I cried when I was watching this. There dreams came true. People complain about america going into recession, but compare it to other countries, some countries have no protection and hope, like this country does, I'm glad that those who have suffered are living a life they always wished for. GOD BLESS THE PEOPLE OF THIS HONORED NATION.

  • I find it kind of condescending that they let them wave with those small flags like little children.

  • @Picdas Yes, we are a great nation, even with two wars and a so-called 'horrible economy'- I don't see how anyone can say a country that protects your freedom of speech is not a great one. Don't let your opinions about one politician make you think otherwise.
