Southern Tier CASK Night at The Ruck (9/30/11 in Troy, NY)

You know I love Southern Tier - they're the best brewery in New York as far as I'm concerned. But I've never been able to find their stuff on cask - that is until last night when they had three of their beers in firkins - Pumking, 2XIPA, and Harvest. Jay of http://youtube.com/jjrudy41 was also there and gave me his thoughts on these beers. Plus there's a special appearance by my new friend Barb who I hope to have as a guest reviewer on the show sometime.

P.S. I have no idea what was up with that girl behind me with the headphones on. Who comes to a loud bar to listen to their iPod? I don't get it so don't expect me to explain it.

man i got to say talk about a trio of outstanding stuff... i really had a tuff time deciding what i liked the best... the pumpking was so flavorful, while the 2x was so smooth and great mouth feel while also serving as just a great ipa, and the harvest was very rich yet hoppy at same time... and you wonder why i love the ruck... i also found the 2 x a little more thin, but cask tend to do that... that said i still found it so much better in cask because how smooth it was... cheers...

@jjrudy41 The Pumking was so much better on cask than from the bottle this year. I hope Mahars can get it on cask too.

@graph180 Mahar's has more cask beers more often. It's really hard to find cask beer in this area, let alone most of America. I'm not a huge fan of cask beer because it tends to be too flat and mild for me but I'll always drink it whenever I can because it's so hard to find.
