Monaovation - Check out this here on YouTube: "LaGuardia take off over my APT". LIke I've mentioned here is what the Residential area that's Right ACROSS from LGA sounds like.
-
Monaovation (Last) Oh, & BTW in case u wanna know. I DO live in the SUBURBAN Area of the Bronx. (Most people think that when they hear the Bronx they think of "Ford Apache" that is the Ghetto Slum areas.) So, I live close to LONG ISLAND & QUEENS (Whitestone Bridge that connects Queens to the Bronx is 15 mins. away from me where LGA is). So, I DO live in a house w/ other Trees & other houses in my neighborhood.
-
Monaovation (Part 2) BTW, I did live on my own for 5 Yrs. Both 20mins. away from the Bronx & out in NJ. Both places were QUIET (w/out any planes goin' over)!! So, I can understand UR point of view as well. RIGHT NOW I'm Embracing these planes goin' over my house b/c they are reminding me of my goal of moving to Austin, TX. I'm planning my career & in order 4 me 2 Stay Focused I look up @ the sky waiting 2 see a plane that I'll be on someday leaving my crappy job & my old environ. behind.

I'm sorry 2 say, but from watching this vid this is no different than over my house. I live in NYC & the airport is 1/2 hr. away. All my life I lived w/ these planes going over, but sorry 2 say that u get used to it. Someone here (NYC) said "u either embrace it or ignore it". Now from hearing these planes in ur Vid compared to Queens ur neighborhood sounds just like MINE (here in The Bronx). If u want to hear LOUD go to the residential area Right ACROSS from LaGuardia & u'll hear LOUD!!

What actions have you attempted/succeeded at?
-
I'm working on getting a commercial type db meter to measure the sound pressure levels. I will also most likely use a surveillence DVR to capture video of the jets while another video feed is on the sound meter so I can mirror the two together.

Oh, and by the way, I'm not retired and I do have a hobby and the Jet noise is a real pain in the ass to my entire neighborhood.
-
I understand your pain. I too live near an airport and for what is mostly peacefull and quiet we are bombarded by large Jetliners thundering overhead. It's really stressfull... It's worse on the weekends when from 7:30am on, there are jets making their northerly turns right over our homes. It's great on a Sunday morning when your trying to get some freakin sleep. Argh!

"Taking off west to go east is ridiculous"
That depends on the wind direction...
I'm sorry ...I can't hear you. If only it were your house

I think the problem is less the house and the noise and more that you are bored in your retirement. Perhaps you should consider finding a hobby other than bird-wathcing/listening?

you do understand that that aircraft have to descend in order to land, correct?? being only 20 miles from the nations busiest airport, did you not expect to have planes fly over?
FittsJr 3 years ago
They are not descending. They are taking off(hence they are ascending and louder)West, turning south(22miles) then turn east over my property, then turn north east or east to NYC or Boston or other east destinations. All the runways run east and west. Taking off west to go east is ridiculous. Besides, they did not have this flight path until 2 and a half years after I bought the property. The FAA is diverting flights due to maintaining schedules after the new runway at that same time.
