Matthew Shepard was murdered 10 years ago. His short 21 year life made a real difference. Numerous web sites started after Matthew's death. Some of the web sites just remembered his life and death, while other web sites dealt with hate crimes and homophobia. Before he died, nobody would have imagined gay marriage as being a political issue. The efforts of Dennis, Judy, and Logan Shepard have made a difference. The Matthew Shepard Foundation is touching lives.
The brutal attack on Matthew Shepard, and his death came at Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. GLBT Canadians and their allies find their thoughts on Thanksgiving are a mixture of happiness for family and friends, and sadness over the loss of Matthew Shepard. At Thanksgiving GLBT Canadians and their allies can be very thankful for Matthew's short life, and for the tremendous difference Matthew, Dennis, Judy, and Logan Shepard made for the queer community.
