ANCHOR:
Haitian-born singer Wyclef Jean and U.S. actor Matt Damon brought some relief to Haiti's storm victims on Saturday (September 13) distributing food in the Haitian town of Cabaret. Here's more:

STORY:
Haiti is one of the world's poorest countries, and after being hit by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike and then Tropical Storm Hanna, it is now in the middle of a national crisis.

[Wyclef Jean, Haitian Singer]:
"We are here today and it is very important to us to go to Gonaives to see the victims of the storms and to talk to them. Before we can help we must see with our own eyes so when we return to the United States we'll know exactly what to ask for. It is also very important to go to Cabaret for everyone to know what we need to do."

Jean and Damon distributed aid in the town of Cabaret, located 70 kilometres north of the capital Port au Prince, where many residents are living in dire conditions and struggling to find clean water and fix broken roads.

On Sunday (September 14) Jean and Damon were to fly by helicopter to Gonaives to distribute more aid.

[Matt Damon, U.S. Actor]:
"We'll be taking the next few days to see what in fact is going on here and I look forward to carrying that message back and hopefully raising as much awareness as possible back home in America."

Officials are afraid the conditions left by the storms could trigger a health crisis and fresh outbreaks of food riots in the impoverished Caribbean country.

  • 0:55 they have to hold on to each other like a pack of monkeys just to stand in line instead of trampling the food distributors to death

  • i cnt hear wyclef >.>

  • Truely i really really dont care what your opinion is. Quite frankly i dont know you you dont know me so i ask why are u speaking to me. i made my point no matter if you like it or not .Which I really dont care about so send your messeges voice your concerns and your anger write it all down rite here but dont attach my name I sad what i meant and thats what I wanted to say and you nor anyone else can change how I feel about the matter. Thankyou and Goodbye

  • Isn't English supposed to be your first language? So how could you be so uneducated in it then? Is that with that kind of education you are putting Haitians down? Come on man! Bring something better. What facts did you bring by the way? I gave you my facts and you replied with your fustration... How factual can this be?

You need to refer to your own history and understand where you are coming from and how could you accept to still depend on corruption money and the same Brits who enslaved you!

  • well it certainly paid off go tell it 2 sum 1 who cares if were so bad tell the haitians to stop migrating here every chance they get. HOW SAD!

  • well how times have changed really get a life im just stating facts they did to themselves whatever there getting!

  • Kugi123, If you think you are really that great, ask yourself if your citizens really make your country what it is. The same Brits who bound you to chains for hundreds of years, they are the same one giving you their Queen. I wish you GREAT education had taught you that Haiti saved your ass for we always stand for Freedom... We even fought for the US, read history first before getting too emotional... Corruption money in your banks make you proud. So leave Haiti alone. Enough is enough...

  • Where did you get you GREAT education then ?Isnt English supposed to be your language? Congrats genius! Poor English...

When Haitians were thinking about enjoying freedom, your fathers were still cutting sugarcanes for the same Brits you belong to right now. If it werent for Haiti, you would still be bound to chains calling our Indigeneous Army for help, read about Simon Bolivar and Miranda and they will tell you. Remember that your country runs on corruption money from countries like Haiti...

  • our gdp (GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT) is what makes us a first world country and ot a third if ur that high. in ratio to the united states were on par so google as i said before! and stop with the dumb shit ok and im 18 yrs old and im sure i know more than you do because obviously ur nasty haitians are trying to overpopuate the bahamas and we spend so much damn money just trying to send u dumb cunt back so even ur locals know our coutry is better!

  • u do tht ! were not desperate for the money
