Looks like the teacher and many others need a refresher course in US history and Bible literacy as well. This issue was taken to the Supreme Court back in the 1940s by a group of true Christians who follow the Bible requirement not to pledge allegiance to anything but God and his government (see Lord's prayer in Bible). In 1943, the Supreme Court ruled in "West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette" that public school students are not required to say the Pledge or stand for the Pledge.

Ely, congrats for being brave and for winning. You're a HERO!

I pledge allegiance to the ideals this country used to have, not a flag or plot of land.

@PersonguydudeWB Myself, I pledge my alleigience to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights of the Unites States of America and the Universal Charter of Rights and Freedom which the United States along with dozens of other countries drew up and ratififed.

The pledge of allegiance has lost it's true meaning and has become a mantra of false patriotism. Those who would have us feel un-American for sitting down are the very ones who are being un-american, by attempting to restrict our freedom of expression.

@joembush Completely wrong Joe you blind followers are going to be the demise of this once great country. "Every good American knows to shut up, get in line, and not cause any waves." What a cowardly thing to say! BAH BAH blind sheep.

It is illegal to make people stand for the pledge. That is the end of the story. The school needs to be reprehended and give her an apology.

@YaDigggg42 Because we all know that's the way it should be in a free land such as ours. You should be locked up for having your own views on things. Well, I think u should be arrested for thinking that way!
If you ask me, requiring children to participate in a ritual day after day from an age when they are too young to understand what it means, a ritual of loyalty to their country, that is not what democracies do.

Nobody is required to pledge allegiance to a flag to be guaranteed their rights.
A person shows their patriotism by how they live and how much they love not only their liberties but want liberty for their fellow countryman, not what idol they worship or master they bow before.
