My first Game Boy game review with a twist. It's done in a "silent" style, which is making it look like an ancient film before sound recording was possible and had dialog with text screens instead of voice.

Had this idea for a while and decided to do it for this first Game Boy Castlevania game since it's old in video game terms.

*Author's notes: I actually meant to give the game 5/10. Also, a text box wasn't in "old film." I apologize for those minor hiccups and any confusion.

  • good review but the silent movie stuff got annoying

  • I don't blame you, the text did move fast at times and it was frequent, but I this review is really more of a creative experiment, and for the most part, it did work out well.

  • I rather enjoyed this whole thing. The old-style film look to the whole thing really worked out, especially given the black and 'white' color for the game. And the use of a slightly older form of english was nice.

This game doesn't really even seen like a Castlevania game. It's more like they have a 'generic vampire hunter' game in the works already, and figured they'd just throw 'Castlevania' on it. Maybe this game is the reason Irate Gamer thought hearts in Castlevania refilled your life?

  • Glad you enjoyed it.

I doubt the IG played or even heard of this game. :P

  • hahaa xD

    very nice review.

i like the oldy style :]

  • Thanks.

  • i think i got the ansure why this game runs so slow,i guess konami dit it in order to get the game in synchronization with the low response time gameboy screen.

if you play supermarioland on gameboy you know there,s alot of blur, but not with this game, however the gba has a way hicher response rate so playing at this speed is annoying.

  • yeah what dit konami thinking dit they had aspecting a multi faster gamer, even the colorized gbc version suffers from such awfull slow controls, shame!!!!!

  • Ok, interesting concept. I've never seem a video game review done like this before.

    5 Stars!

  • back in the old classic gaming days, highscores was all that matters in a video game. most gamer can pretty much remember their exact high scores for every game they've played and brag about it in their workplace/school. modern video games is all about cool actions, graphics and awesome storylines. sometimes, i don't find it fair for the new gen gamer to rate or compare the old games with the new one. anyway if i were to rate it i'll give it 6/10 a decade ago. now i give it 2/10.

  • Nice review Brett!

I also like the Kakariko song :)

  • It's a decent game.

  • God I love this game. Brings back shit loads of memories.

  • actually the 2 other castlevania gameboy games were pretty good... well except legends... but #2 belmont's revenge was amazing for a handheld back in that time

  • Dude this is awesome. A twist to reviews. Pretty original!
