Nearly a disaster. Energia rocket first launch with Polyus.

First energiya rocket launch. This rocket was also used to launch the soviet space shuttle.

You can see that it bents slightly just after lift-off (I bet some engineers suddenly remembered the N1). This was likely a bug in the guidance system, since this was the first launch and the second one (the one carrying the buran) went perfectly. Although that was a little scary, the system recovered very well and did a successful launch.

The polyus payload guidance system failed after it was separated from energia core causing it to not reach orbit.

I think the polyus actually exists to this day. They probably said all that crap about landing to that ocean floor and stuff. It was probably a cover story so the U.S. deosn't think that something that powerful exists. The U.S. never searched the pacific ocean floor for polyus. And polyus is a stealth satellite with black carbon paint

Great news: This magnificent beast may soon fly once again! The Russian government is looking into possibly reviving the rocket or devising something based on it by 2016.

I wouln't say that it bent but rather tilted one direction during launch..this was corrected for the Buran launch

You know..the place that sends our boys to shed their blood for others that are so stupid they elect a butcher dictator that feeds their own people feet first into meat grinders.
