  • Hi Einar, I found your post on the hydroseeding forum. Interesting project. Can you please tell me what hydromulch and application rate you used for this site. The slopes look approx 50-60 degrees. Is that accurate? Can you tell me more about the geo lock / geo grid material that was installed? Did you have any erosion issues after hydroseeding - washout, rilling, etc?

  • @SuperGubu i dont know about the slopes but must be at least 30-40°. I actually just drove up there easily with just the help of the diff-lock and front-wheel drive, however that was later that summer so the soil was much dryer then. The slopes on the revetment itself must be a lot steeper. I dont know much about the geo grid thing but I know it's a extremely tedious job and its all arranged by hand and takes a lot of time. Its very common in those avalanche revetment things here in iceland..

  • @SuperGubu the video above is from the first time we went there to do work.. since then we have gone there two times after that. So over all it got 2 times the full application and for the third just 50%. By the time we came there the final time everything was green and nice even though the soil was basically undernourished deep soil coming from the excavation of the site, and very rough. We did get a few erosion issues and especially rilling and washouts..

  • @SuperGubu __---*** It's weird how the comments come from down to up instead of the other way, so start reading ath the bottom ;) ***---__ So a lot of water comes down that valley during spring so it's inevitable.. we just tackled that by putting 100% or more application every time we got there but it will always be to some degree.. it was a rather complex job but we're getting used to it since over the last ten years or so we've probably been averaging about 1 avalanche revetment per summer..

  • @SuperGubu can i get your email to send you a link to my photo gallery i just made?

  • @SuperGubu send me an email to einarvalur2@gmail.com and i'll send you a link to my photo gallery if you are interested ;)

  • @koysone ..great response! Many thanks.

  • @SuperGubu and obviously for this project we couldn't fill it that much.. the 7000 liters of material covers around 1 hectare (10000m2), or 2 hectares without any mulch at all. For this particular project, we used 250 kilos of chopped newspapers and around 300-400 kg of the powdered paper pellets (wish i had pictures of it) along with 300 kg of fertilizer and around 80kg of various seeds, and sprayed them on 1 hectare. The whole project was around 5 hectares if i remember correctly.

  • @SuperGubu yeah thanks. The mulch we use is basically just chopped up newspapers (each flake about the size of a thumbnail), some condensed paper-powder pellets we get from a local printing company (a by-product which they would other wise just throw away) and sometimes even a bit of hay where it's extremely steep. So none of that fancy specialized expensive mulch from the US or something. Just plain old local stuff thats on hand. The tank we have can hold approx 7000-7500 (filled to the brim)..
