Southern #630 Test Run pt. 3

The recently restored/rebuilt Southern 2-8-0 #630 is on her second test run between Chattanooga and Cleveland, TN. This engine is the first of three to be restored under NS's revived Steam Program. The trip was not without problems. Three different stops had to be made to take care of overheated bearings. The tender also had to be refilled with water at Cleveland, TN. Other than that, this old beauty put on quite a show!

Odd how on her first test run they didn't refill her water supply, does running at lower speeds use up more water?

@CarNutandTrainNut2 That it does. This would be the reason UP (and NS during their previous steam program) uses water tenders on ALL runs. Carrying along a tool car and top notch mechanics is also must. NS had NONE of these during this run. It took over 8.5 hours to make this round trip. Not good!

How much water and coal does she hold?

@anb740 A 50 mile break in close to home doesn't need a canteen or a tool car. We had a tool truck following with extra hoses in the truck and tender boxes. The first time on the way up, half the tank was used so even then water should have been taken. The limit was pushed then, which is why water was taken this time.
