RARER THAN RARE!
Here is the complete video for E-Zee Possee's EVERYTHING STARTS WITH AN 'E' ...
Enjoy!
Listen for Eve Gallagher & Boy George on backing vocals.
I digitised this video from an old club promo tape I bought in 2004. The original is quite clear but the video itself is shot 'through a disco ball' ... so that's why it doesn't look very clear! It didn't start out *clear*.
BACKGROUND:
MC Kinky (Caron) did a demo called KINKY REGGAE wich she gave to Boy George when she met him in a London nightclub. He encouraged her to develop her talent. Shortly after rapping on KIPSY (a track on George's HIGH HAT album), he signed her to MORE PROTEIN. That led to the appearance of the first E-Zee Posse single, EVERYTHING STARTS WITH AN 'E', which was the big break for her, reaching the Top 20 in the UK and becoming an anthem for the 'SUMMER OF LOVE' generation. The song was written as an instrumental by Jeremy Healy, a long time friend of Boy George. George thought it needed some vocals and thought of Kinky right away. When delivered to the record company they tried to get rid of the rap, saying it wasn't working, but George stood firm and said that without MC Kinky there was no record left. Virgin didn't want to put money into an 'E' record so George financed the first pressing himself, which were sold out in no time at all. DJ's started to play the record in the clubs. DJ Paul Oakenfold heard the record and asked George why even he wasn't able to get a copy. George replied, "Why don't you ask your girlfriend?" Oakenfold's own girlfriend was working at Virgin and was blocking the release of the record! Then Virgin started to notice it and probably smelled money, as they suddenly were keen to release it. But with no radio promotion (except for the illegal dance channels) it was destined to fail. However, demand was still very high so Virgin re-re-released it again. This time with even more DJ support it finally went on to become a sucsess, taking MC Kinky all over the world promoting the song.

Boy George was an 88 / 89 pioneer in the rave scene, his More Protein label through out 89 released 2 of the biggest tunes of that 89 "Summer of Love" period in the shape of "After the Love" & "Every thing starts with an E" ... He was also one the very 1st to add that "Raggamuffin edge" to rave music with MC Kinky

Remember playing this superloud in my room when i was living with my mother in a small swedish town. Loved it, no one else did, but it gave me hope for the future, there was a world out there.
Eventually i became a prostitute and later on a rentboy in London.
So there sure was another world out there;-)

Takes me right back to a time when Bieber was a glint in the milkman's eye and Simon Cowell was just a nightmare someone else was having. Good to see Kinky is still going and looking as gorgeous as ever.
