Just a clip of a great radio station from Rochester NY way back in the early 80s (Aug 1982 to be exact) that always played great music, and for anyone that is nostalgic and remembers it. Please feel free to comment.

  • This is from when MJQ was in Rochester. They are now WBEE 92.5, A country station. They came on as a disco station then flipped to album rock. Great memories!! Thanks for posting.

  • @UnkleJustin yea they switched to country one day out of nowhere in the early 80s and haven't changed since then.

  • There was an awful lot of commercials! Love magic 92 when they played whole albums!

  • Art Stocks Playpen, The Mason Jar and the Orange Monkey- I remember all of them and went to that very Jethro Tull concert advertised. Duke Jupiter, House of Guitars- Rochester institutions. I've got an 8 track of old WCMF from the mid '70's kicking around, I should look for that and upload it.

  • They were the first Commercal music media to break my heart, 13yrs old going into 8th grade...Had a new MQJ shirt for the school year... I'm pretty sure it was the summer of 83' they changed formats to Pop Rock (PXY) then back to Rock, then to Pop then to Country.... Never got to wear that shirt.

  • Great hearing those old Rochester commercials. I remember the Muxworthy's jingle.

  • @waynemasters 102.5 was not the WMJQ of this clip. I love the mention of the Mason Jar and the bands playing around town.

  • The concert calendar at the beginning is from 1982.

  • @UnkleJustin Actually, based on stories I've heard I don't recall them ever being a disco station. I believe after the failed WNWZ all news format in the 1970s, they switched over to the Magic 92 rock format heard here. Soon after this was recorded, they became Top 40 Q92. However, that format would only last until April 1, 1987, when they stunted with a rock format for the day before switching to country as WBEE at noon on April 2.

  • I grew up in Amherst... I recall Majic 102.5 very well w/ Sandy Beach, The Real Steele, etc. Their bumpers always said "WMJQ - Buffalo, Rochester, Toronto - Majic 102-5". Majic was a great station!
