The Light of the East Ensemble opens the 10th anniversary season for Neruda Productions at the Waterloo Button Factory, March 11, 2011.
The ensemble is an instrumental group based in London, Ont., specializing in music from the Near and Middle East, including traditional, folk, classical, Arabic, Greek Rembetika, and vintage pop music from regions such as Armenia, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria.
Performers include:
Panayiotis Giannarapis: oud bouaouki, baglama, tzoura.
Barry Usher: clarinet, flute.
Mary Ashton: violin.
Jedd House: contra bass
Daniel Baerg: darbuka, frame drum, percussion.
Ishra: dance.
Founded by Isabel Cisterna, Neruda Productions is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to building community bridges in Waterloo Region through music, dance, drama and visual arts from around the world.
