1.17. An odd thing was that many Australian soldiers during the Great War had a very high regard for the British Cavalry despite the latter's limited role in the war and despite many Anzacs often having a not very good opinion on the performance of the British infantry. Maybe it was the Australian instinct to admire fine horsemanship. Even general Pompey Elliot, who made no secret of his low regards for British infantry always spoke very highly of the British cavalry.
