Sig sounded incredulous when I told them this gun was hiccupping, almost like it was an impossibility. But in these runs in my Trench Warfare Drill you will see those realities. It seems all the failures were associated with a Kimber brand 10 round magazine with PMC FMJ ammo, a combo that has been 100% in every other 1911 I've ever tested. Fact is though, every 1911 I've tested in TNP has had similar issues and sometimes it takes some shooting and even re-tuning by the factory to get them 100%. In this outing, the gun runs acceptably at times and several ammuntion types are tried with it including brass, steel, and aluminum cased ammo. Cr0cket20 remarks how it's not as smooth as some other 1911s and I'm inclined to agree. The stiff trigger and lack of smoothness are surprising revelations for a Sig and though I love many of their other pistols, they get no free ride here. If this gun wears the Sig name it should be 100% reliable, smooth, and with a great trigger out of box. On the upside this Nitron Rail with its scultpted Sig-like slide and Cocobolo wood grips has striking looks and is an accurate gun as we demonstrate here. After this shoot, the gun went back to Sig for a check-up (an expensive hassle) and once back it went on several more outings, running 100%. Also I had Terry G from Impactguns in Ogden, UT to do a nice trigger job on this Sig 1911 Nitron Rail which helps immensely. With that work done, the Sig 1911 it seems is finally ready for some serious defensive work.

  • I love Sig, but they are hit and miss with the 1911's. I think it is because their tolerances are so small.
