To compare a live version to a studio is eroneous, first off you get as many takes as you need, then you can punch in parts, after wich the song gets post production and mastering. In a controlled studio you dont play a guitar it will bleed into the vocal. His guitar on this is excellent using alot of techniques and advanced chordings, and he still manages a good vocal in only one take. So to compare it to studio versions and not recognize the quality is pretty shallow minded.

@wrekd1 most country singers dont write there own stuff. Its obvious he has the chops, on guitar and vocals What do you want, every country singer to fit into a certain plastic mold.

This rendition is just so unreal. 2003, I was driving through Maine with the radio on. He was performing this song live in the station studio, much like what's seen in this video. I was floored (and when it comes to music, I'm pretty damn jaded). What makes this just so special is that his vocals are 10/10, but the guitar accompaniment is pretty dynamic- beyond simple 'strumming'. Put it all together and you get this gem. Find the Yahoo Exclusive video of him doing this for an even better cut.

Daryll Hall has been quoted as saying that Jimmy's version is the best he's ever heard. Now THAT'S a compliment folks.
