One thing that I make clear to everyone I teach is that we are MAKING MUSIC when we play. Music is a stimulus and as individuals, it moves us all differently. Music provokes different reactions from each one of us and to suppress that by ignoring how it makes us feel, simply to play what we think is the "NORM" completely demolishes any chance we have of finding our original voice behind the instrument or creating something new.

Tom does an AMAZING job here with his interpretation of this latin tune. It would have been very easy for him to just play some latin grooves he learned from a book with a few "stock" latin fills just to appease the conservative drummers of the world but HE DID NOT!! He went with his emotion that the tune provoked from him and he came up with some very interesting fills toward the end of the tune. Still latin, but with a hint of rock that MUSICALLY WORKS!! It is so great to hear Tom's musical influences come through on this tune. You have a GREAT example here of how music continues to evolve due to an artist playing from his heart and soul and not entirely from his mind! GREAT JOB TOM!!

  • Hi there. I'm an aspiring Drummer of 16. I have a practical Music Exam in a week, and I was hoping to play this track for it. However, my CD has been lost, and I have not been able to recover any of the drumless tracks. I was hoping you might be able to send me just this one track. If not, thanks for your time :)

  • Wow you basicly had your eyes closed, I like the fills.

  • 2:23 - end, diggin' it. Changin' up the feel and it works really nice.

  • Tommy G, groovin' on the cowbell! It looks effortless, man, and sounds great. How did that Connecticut boy get that island groove down....must be those trips to Antiqua.

  • love the laid back feel!!

  • Nice clave beat, a lttle bossa nova, little salsa feet. I like the synchopated accent toward the end.

  • Love that Latin beat Tommy!
