It's a good thing we didn't see any REAL (mummified) babies in that baby basket sitting next to the irori (the fire pit). That would have been kind of disconcerting.
When I watched this again, it reminded me of how harsh living must have been because they used the paper where we use glass for windows... Imagine the wind that would come through. Yikes! And I think MY house is cold...
Although I did say it was a "one family dwelling", in Japan, "one family" consisted in the old days of probably four generations... three now in the country where I live... so "one family" for Japanese and "one family" for North Americans can be quite a different number of people (except for big families... like Scooter's)
