Indonesia President Visits Japan

CHAN: Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono kick started his visit

to Tokyo Monday. He met the Japanese Emperor and Empress.

STORY: President Yudhoyono was expected to get a full guard of honour welcome at the

Imperial Palace, but heavy rains cancelled it.

Instead he and his wife were greeted by the

Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the entrance of the palace.

Yudhonoyo will be dining with the Imperial family later tonight.

He will meet with Japanese businessmen and the Prime Minister on Tuesday.

Japan and Indonesia are expected to continue talks on a bilateral

economic deal that begun some years ago...but

officials on both sides say that nothing firm is in the works yet.

Japan is Indonesia's largest investment partner in Asia... and

Indonesia is one of Japan's key gas and oil suppliers.

Yudhonoyo is expected to fly out of Tokyo on Wednesday and head to Moscow.
