  • A lot of cynics would say that this is the real definition of abstract art: that which you look for 1 minute and hear the artist talk about it for 10.

I have to admit I have a lot of reverse-snobbery on abstract art. I don't consider it unnerving or even specifically inaesthetic (just DIFFERENTLY aesthetic) but I feel like many other people's enjoyment of it is a little contrived for social reasons.

  • We should probably spend more time LOOKING at all art instead of talking about it. Thanks for your point of view.

  • Thanks for your comment!

    Lynne

  • you should put up another video soon but one with your drawings

  • Thanks, that's a great idea. I will try to do it soon.

    Lynne

  • what does the art actually mean to the artists

  • My art is about discovery. That's the exciting moment for me--when I am totally in the "zone" of the painting process, reacting to the colors and forms on the canvas, and something new emerges. It is exhilarating.

  • abstract art may not be all bullshit, but there are just so much room for bullshit in abstract art. It's so easy.

  • Amateur abstract art .

  • "Dancing About Architecture"....I like that! Sounds like a great title for a book, but I would only dance for exceptional architecture.

  • Talking about art is like dancing about architecture.

  • .................

  • Okay, so I didn't actually listen to video, didn't want to wake the kids, But I can assume she is saying the same thing I do, "this is relevent!" But the symbolism and reality of the purse is wonderful and profound!

  • Perhaps in defiance of the new “trans-media” arts, the search for something new, as a venture itself, can be appealing and satisfying wherever discovery occurs. The artist as creator, curator and critic becomes fodder for self annihilation. But anything that initiates discourse is as valuable as the silence and serenity it contrasts. Just “be!”

  • From Pollock to Rothko, non-objective art has always been dependent on the analysis of how we experience, as per John Dewey. The compliments are nice, but so is cash. Isn’t the essence of minimalism found in your local house painter, creating an environment that promotes improved living, or fresh beginnings? Once the “non-objective” painting is created, it becomes an object, negating its own label and so-called inherent attributes.

  • Blah blah blah. You paint lines on canvas and when your done what does it look like? Lines on a canvas.

  • So... what ever happened to blending both objective and subjective? Does no one do that any more?

Personal Opinion: I don't like the paintings from what I can see. They're kinda... boring. ._.
