Today, August 29, would have been Ingrid Bergman's 94th birthday. It also marks the 27th anniversary of her death. Ingrid's first encounter with Hollywood occurred in 1939 when she starred in the English remake of her Swedish film, Intermezzo. It would be only 3 years later that she would star in the role that she is most associated with today; Ilsa in Casablanca. She was once quoted as saying "I made so many films which were more important, but the only one people ever want to talk about is that one with Humphrey Bogart." Fans of Ingrid Bergman know that there is so much more than Casablanca. During the 1940's she starred alongside many of the top leading men in Hollywood including Gary Cooper, Charles Boyer and Cary Grant. On AFI's list of greatest female screen legends in 1999, Ingrid ranked #4. She died of cancer on August 29, 1982 (some references list August 30th) at the age of 67. She will always be remembered "Sweden's illustrious gift to Hollywood."
