Faron Young recorded his mega country/pop crossover hit "Hello Walls" in 1961, and recorded another successful minor crossover hit later that year with "Backtrack". In my opinion these older songs meant more when they were played in the car because we were completely dependent on dj's to play them. This was years before 8 tracks, cassettes, or any other means to play them at will, so they stand out in memory, even the car being driven when they were played.
