Arguing that education needs reform AND more money, President Obama is
proposing a program that uses more carrot than stick to improve
lagging US education results.

The program he calls "Race to the top" promises more than $4 Billion
dollars in grants to states and school districts that not only improve
student performance, but also put good teachers where they are needed
most. States that refuse to track teacher performance would not be
eligible for the grant money.

The program is the antithesis of President Bush's underfunded "No
Child Left Behind" program which penalized schools that did not meet
performance standards and relied only on student testing in
determining which schools were doing well and which were doing poorly.

  • @Thurm2223 maybe you should try an American News source for your statistics, rather than the Australian owned Fox News

  • LOL - Facts from FOX news!

  • Created many jobs for Americans!?!?!? Here are some facts just taken off of FOX news as I write this: 216,000 jobs lost in August alone. 9.7% of Americans are unemployed, and it's probably more. 6.9million jobs lost overall.

This idiot has done NOTHING but destroy our economy, began the crumbling of the dollar, and elect Czars to do his dirty work.

The only thing he has created are a ton of lies!!

  • Senator Al Franken; 1969 Grad of the Blake school. Argueably the best private school in Minnesota. Former Sen. Dayton also went there. MPLS Mayor R.T. Rybak was a 1974 grad of the Breck school. A highly rated private school in Minneapolis. People who have benifitted greatly from a good education are the first ones to stand in the way when vouchers are suggested as a remedy for the problem. If it can be said that the NRA owns the Republicans then the NEA surely owns the Democrats.

  • I suggest that when the public school system does not suit my familys needs that I enjoy the option to take my tax money to a school system that does work. BTW. I work for the Minneapolis public schools. We did an in house teacher survey back in the 90's and discovered that over 50% of district teachers sent their own children to private schools. The principle of Richfield high sent his children to a private high school 2 blocks from his own school.

  • Only when I hear this man condemn the State of Israel and take back the disgusting theft of American peoples equity by the banksters and the withdrawl of troops from these illegal & corrupt wars, onlt then will I allow him any credibility.

The rhetoric is doublespeak prepared by those who pull his strings.

The USA is in grave danger and this mascot is nothing more than just one more of their tools.

  • Do you suggest that there be no public school system?

  • This guy ends the DC voucher program, sends his own kids to a private school and wants your children locked in the government run schools with no options available to the families. Hey Mr President! How about if we all get to send our kids to high performing private schools? If they're good enough for your kids than why not the rest of america? Put childrens needs ahead of the teachers union's. Supporting the teachers union is not supporting education.
