He's doing it with a PC camera (mounted on top of his monitor) and perhaps a refecting piece of material taped to the end of his fist. The camera can be used as a VR manipulator with tracking algorithims that are put in place with the right software.

hand tracking technology like this is possible without any hand mounted *sensors*, just hand mounted transmitters or reflectors. gloves count (they technically reflect blue light).
