  • @caponsacchi eh, song for my father is pretty good...

  • This is jazz at it's best!!

  • Listen to that gorgeous, achingly beautiful sound and melodic constructions of the one and only Hank Mobley. No tenor player out of hundreds has reached me more. Almost the same could be said for Kenny Dorham. It's all about making beauty.

  • Some jazz history texts treat this recording as the cornerstone of the whole hard bop movement. Great music and players--far better than "Song for My Father" (for juveniles). But Horace would write better songs: "Strollin'", "Ecarole," "Nica's Dream," "Moon Rays," "the Outlaw" for starters. Unfortunately, "Dad's Song" made tons of money and the result was the end of Horace's status as the Ellington of small-group jazz composition.

  • Found this completely by chance, and I'm glad I did. It's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing :)
