It is now a year since John Martyn died, and I can find no better way to commemorate this than uploading this excellent live version of "John Wayne".
It is from a German TV show in 1986, probably recorded during his European tour that year. A different show from what appears to be the same tour is available on DVD from http://www.johnmartyndvd.co.uk/

Sounds like good John even mined an area now owned by Tom Waits. This is actually incredible for a live performance. May even be better than the studio version. Martyn takes something bordering on maniacal and turns it into a melodicly intense classic. John Martyn was having fun that night. A wonderful musician. Always a delight to listen to.
