  • @MrFpam I just thought the complacent person who used the phrase "sheer civilization" needed a little shaking up. I do apologize for hitting a raw nerve. It was never my intention to cause pain, but you must forgive me for being impatient with the notion of "sheer civilization", as if civilization was to be judged solely by it best creations and everything else swept under the rug. That rug is getting pretty lumpy.

    Best To You

  • @bronxboy47 Your comment about the concentration camps hit a raw nerve and you failed to see or acknowledge that. I hope you can continue to enjoy beautiful music without being unduly upset , or more importantly without upsetting others.

    Best wishes!

  • @MrFpam One parting word, my non-aggressive friend: I imbibe my works of "civilized" art with a strong reality chaser. I humbly suggest you learn to do the same, otherwise the Fourth Reich may sneak up on you unawares.

  • @MrFpam And your characterization of my initial comment as "shockingly irrelevant and inappropriate!" wasn't the the slightest bit aggressive? You haven't cornered the market on a sense of futility, I assure you.

  • @bronxboy47 Every one of your "honest" responses has been aggressive. I don't claim to be any sort of arbiter; just don't see what Hitler's concentration camps and all the other stuff you brought up has to do with this lovely performance of a beautiful piece which you claim to love. I am sorry I attempted to engage in reasoned discourse with you. It is obviously futile.

    Have a nice day!

  • @MrFpam Again I say, who made you arbiter of what is appropriate or relevant here at YouTube? How about answering that? You challenged my original statement by calling it shocking and inappropriate and have vigorously disagreed with every honest response I've given you, and then have the nerve to accuse me of ranting? Even you must realize that pretty underhanded.

  • @bronxboy47 I don't understand your last comment "fortunately no one has died, etc", which is perhaps just as well as it seems offensive.

Your comment about the Nazis is right but has no relevance here and you seem now to be admitting that the piece is an expression or at least a result of civilization. You apparently have an enormous chip on your shoulder and have taken a harmless comment by someone enjoying this music as an excuse for several rants!

  • @MrFpam To me this work is all the more touching and beautiful because it was written by a fallible human living in an all-too-fallible "civilization". And yes, I did have the Nazis in mind, among others. who far too often use the accomplishments of artists and other men and women of genius to further their own nefarious ends.

Fortunately, no one has died and left you arbiter of what is appropriate for YouTube comments.

  • @MrFpam As it happens, I love this work, but I find it impossible to sit quietly while somebody spouts claptrap about "sheer civilization", whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. Needless to say, I have my suspicions.

  • @bronxboy47 Is your problem with this music, or the people performing it? Why are you so negative in the face of such beauty? Who is building an inane philosophy? Can't we just enjoy it?
