  • it's kind of hard not to be smug when you're chris thile.

  • All the comments I see here are a teensy bit envious. Face it. If you play mando, you ain't ever gonna sound this good, so get over it.

  • @bluegrasssingingman, sorry you can't see how amazing of a player he is. But you don't have to come here and bash him to his fans because Chris Thile's bluegrass blood isn't as thick as yours. Ever consider that he just doesn't WANT to play bluegrass that much? True, you didn't say he was a bad player, but you said he "couldn't" play bluegrass. I think you just don't like the fact that someone that plays something other than bluegrass is more popular than your favorite mandolin players.

  • @JeanClaudeVanHam If you l;ike to think so, good for you.

  • Genius...that's all. He transcends to another place when he's on. I don't know any other mando player on this planet who is as diverse and creative as Chris. His passion is palpable when you hear him live.

  • @bluegrasssingingman Have you bothered to listen to Thile's collaboration with Michael Daves? That is as bluegrass as songs come. Thile is the best, at everything mandolin related. Whether you like his taste or not. Whenever he does reach back into his bluegrass roots, he never ceases to amaze.

  • @sosome57 No thanks.

  • @bluegrasssingingman Try Bach's Partitas and Sonatas for solo violin. I think this piece Thile is playing is great and a lot of fun to play, but there are others you might like. Thile really is an incredible mandolinist. He doesn't play Bach as well as say Ralf Leenen, but he is really good. I wish I had half his skill. I've played bluegrass, but over time I've come to appreciate baroque music. It really just feels right under your fingers.

  • @sosome57 LOL More complex,Bluegrass is fun to play, Bluegrass will make you pull your hair out at times. there's times playing Bluegrass you try to get a run, or something you may be trying to do. It sounds like the most simple thing, and you can get it. LOL You think your hearing it right. Your fingers just won't cop-orate. Bluegrass can make you feel dumb at times. Then its time to lay it down, and go do something else.LOL Thile is a good mandolin picker. He's a great NEW GRASS picker.
