  • Cudowna muzyka, dziękuję.

  • @BronkaBie

Proszę uprzejmie. Miło mi, że się podoba.

  • i wish somebody could explain the meaning of this polonia. what was wagner thinking of poland ? if you know please let me know too!

  • After the November Uprising in Poland had been crushed, emigrants and remnants of insurgent teams were travelling to France through Leipzig (Germany). Germans welcomed them like heroes. Young Wagner got to know some Poles then, and in 1832 he took part in Polish emigrants' celebrations of 3rd May anniversary, where he heard some Polish patriotic songs. That's where "Polonia" overture comes from. This work doesn't belong to artist's greatest achievements, but faint announcements of ...

  • ... later, great works can be heard here by a skilful listener, whereas Poles can easily find some quotes from Polish patriotic songs. While listening to Wagner's music, it's not necessary to "start getting the urge to conquer Poland"* :)

  • Hej, @FearOfFoxbat.

This is not about what Wagner think about Poland. This is a story told by music. Polish history. For example in 1,33 signing of the Constitution of May 3 and then partition of Polish.

  • @dawidjoseph05 Some people are linking him with NSDAP because Wagner's childrens were friends with Hitler and Hitler was inspired by Wagner's works. Same story with Nietzsche.

  • Wagner (and arguably, Verdi) is the composer that developed his style most in the course of his career. This is a caricture of the very worst parts of Beethoven, Weber and Meyerbeer all jumbled up to its utmost vulgarity … Still: Thank you very much for uploading this rare piece of music.

  • This is a fantastic piece, one of the best of Wagner's lesser-known repertoire... but my goodness Kawalla takes it WAY too slow in this performance. Thanks for uploading it, though: more people need to hear it.
