Ancient Greek Gorgon killed by Perseus
Real Bronze, casted in US!
In the greek mythology Medusa was a mortal monster. Her two sisters in contrast were immortal. Everyone who looked in her eyes immediately turned to stone. Perseus killed her by cutting off her head with a sickle.

  • When the young and beautiful Medusa was discovered in Athenas temple making love to Poseidon, Athena turned her into a snake-haired monster - a mere glance turned men to stone. Then she sent Perseus to cut off her head. Medusa, the Serpent Goddess, seems to have been originally an Earth Goddess, vanquished and demonised as male gods (i.e. warrior culture) gained power. Snakes seem to have been a universal symbol for wisdom I have no idea why.

  • Medusa was known as a beauitiful lady but, Athena put a curse to you know make her a snake thingy hair..

  • the truth is that medusa was a beautiful woman but she sleepd with zeus and the the other gods made her ugly so nobody could love her again i am from greece

  • @archdeaconj yeah there is so many stories about the greek mythologie that you dont know which story is the orginale.

  • @Phoenix10wolf In some versions, yes. It's difficult to reconcile Athena's fury with Medusa being the victim of rape, though.

  • @archdeaconj dint poseidon raped medusa in the temple of athena.

  • WOAH, SO MEDUSA FUCKED PERCY JACKSONS DADDY?! :o DAMN,POSEIDON GOT HIS FREAK ON!

  • Umm, yes. Anyway, the notion of Medusa having 2 other sisters is attributed to the ancient greek poet Ovid, I think in the 8th century BC, so I don't know if that idea qualifies as "myth" rather than a dramatic fabrication.

  • According to an ancient greek historian in the 1st century AD, the real Medusa was a libyan war-queen and snake-priestess. The night before the libyan's upcoming battle with the greeks, Perseus stole into their camp and assassinated her, but she was so beautiful that he kept her head to show the other greeks.

  • Medusa was a beautiful women and Athena got jealous and made her into what she is now.

  • Yep thats right
