Eye Movement test: Looking straight, up, and side to side without glasses as requested to compare movement before and after treatment with an anti-convulsant medication. I feel my eyes are more stable and I don't experience headaches and eyestrain anywhere near as often as I used to. My eyes still shake, but not as much.

I still have trouble tracking small objects, finding an item in a pile of other items or on the grocery store shelf, and reading for any extended period of time due to double vision. A developmental optometrist explained that this is because I am unable to maintain central fixation. The National Eye Institute has proven the best treatment for convergence insufficiency is office-based vision therapy.

Ideally, I would like to get vision therapy.

My eyesight has improved significantly according to the Snellen chart. It was 20/40 with glasses and now is apparently 20/25ish with glasses. I'm not 100% sure this is due to the medication, but in terms of timing, I experienced a noticeable improvement in symptoms (headaches, eye strain) which coincided with beginning treatment with this medication. My eyes still shake more when I'm tired, stressed, or anxious. I still have a visual processing disorder, despite the improvement in eyesight.

(I kinda look silly staring at one spot, but that was what I was asked to do for the test.)

  • Unos ojos muy bonitos, y el nystagmus, casi imperceptible....

    lo corrigio de alguna manera¿

  • @Buenanuevas Gracias...I think. I'm not really sure EXACTLY what you said (especially towards the end - you lost me at "corrigio"), but I think you said at least one of my eyes is beautiful. So, I'll take it! Me gusta mucho...I think? Maybe. :)

  • what is the name of the song in this video????

  • @paramedic It's called "Act Two ~ circulus vitiosus" by Jamie K. I chose it from the audioswap song options provided by Youtube to avoid copyright infringement.

  • Your vision better now?

  • @fgod999 UPDATE: My vision IS improving. I've driven a few times at night in familiar places which I wouldn't have been able to do before with any confidence.

  • So far, I met 2 ppl with noticeable nystagmus. I dated one, and I saw her eyes on good (minimal jerking) and bad days (headaches).

I'm no creep, but to be honest I always felt it added intensity to the gaze, especially with small, fast twitches (stupid thought: designers make cartoon chars eyes shake in heartfelt moments)

I REALLY hope they'll find a cure, but never be afraid of eye contact: those who get turned off don't deserve enjoying your company (and it's their loss: you're beautiful)

  • @fgod999 I don't think my vision is better. I'm kinda more interested in being able to slow the appearance of the jerky eye movements, than improve my vision, because I simply want to feel more confident about making eye contact with people.

  • My Husband has Idiopathic Congential Nystagmus and his aunt gave us an article on corrective surgeries for it. I am still researching everything but your video was amazing to see the different stages and the slowing of the movements! When we met people used to call him 'Shifty' so he was super nervous about eye contact. It took 3 years before he really stared into my eyes. I don't even see the movements anymore. Thanks so much for your video. It really means a lot to see improvement!
