I click File and there's nothing called "Publish Settings" or anything with the name "publish"...

Buddy.... excellent... you have shown it in an amazingly simple manner..... i have a suggestion to make your video more searchable to people who are, like me, not too expert in flash... actually i was searching youtube for 'converting fla to swf'... i have no idea that it is called publishing... so if you can add converting fla to swf too in your search tags, may be more people can use your help man....

anyone know how to convert into .avi or .wmv coz i want to finish my editing in sony vegas and nothing supports the uncompressed movie export and when its compressed the quality is just fail

File-->Publish settings. Click on the .avi button and then publish. You can play around with the publishing quality settings but avi will never be as good quality as flash, becasue of the ways that they save files.
