Archimonde was summoned to the world. Which makes him a summoned creature. Just without a duration. A wisp detonates to deal huge amount of damage to summoned creatures, so game-logically millions of them will kill him! Secondly the wisps are spirits of the forests. Obviously theyll come to its defense. There.

Avatar never has stood a chance to the story of Warcraft 3, shame they didn't beat Avatar to the movie release, tired of hearing everybody "fanboy" it like its the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Those werent jsut lights, they were wisps, dead night elf spirits (you know, the things you build NE building with?). Furion infused them with all the power the night elves had, including their power of immortality, to make them all living bombs to blow Archimonde up.

He allied him self whit the Burning legion to stop their invasion and greated a new well of eternity right after the old one had caused the sundering when Sergaras tried to enter trough it. So his brother imprisoned him because he thought illidan was addicted to magic.
