This video exists just in case you bought one of these, and you are trying vainly to describe the 'flicker into black' problem that you might be seeing to a Vizio tech-support rep, and don't have the hundreds of thousands of words needed to describe this moving picture.

What you are watching here (for the rest of you who haven't seen this) is the unit switching back and forth (using PiP) between being a monitor for my Mac on HDMI1 and being the video presentation of the Dish TV system on the Composite input.

This is mostly me hitting 'swap' for a minute and a half or so. It doesn't seem to elicit the behavior, but when it goes black, it does show that the LCDs are really not black (but getting an otherwise black signal, which is proven by the flickering "1080pHD" and "1080iHD" text on the blue background showing up).

Curiously, the tech at phone support had me disconnect the power cable and *then* press the power button (for thirty seconds, no less) to reset the system. Of course, since the problem wasn't occurring at the time (it's an intermittent bug), this behavior didn't 'stop' it (nor did it prevent it, later).

BTW, I think the use of the 'American Idol' bg video is 'fair use' (especially as I don't actually get more than a few seconds of 'video' in a row, and the point of this isn't the video, but the display). It kinda had to be something, yano? But if they want me to take it down for infringement, that story will actually be a bit more interesting than the bug itself.

  • just bought a 32" vizio to replace a 27" old style tv. I'm scared that this one won't last for 10 years like my old one. these things aren't cheap either.

  • this exact same thing is happening with my vizio.

  • i had for a year and a half and nothing happened to it but maybe a power surge or something happened to it

  • You are lucky, still have the sound and some picture. Mine just went black and nothing worked. Looked at internet and many many people have problems with these TV's. I guess, can be glad that it lasted 2 years.

I miss those older Sony TV's that were costly, but lasted for decades.

  • cont. However when it is in black screen any video input resets and has to be restarted. I am using a Gateway new computer,(2 months old) with Win 7 premium factory installed.

  • I am using a Vizio 20" for a computer monitor ( it is a HDTV) via HDMI cable. When I had it hooked up by VGA cable I kept getting a screen that says No connection VGA 8 not supported. My cable technician suggested switching to HDMI cable and at $87 for the cable I did so. NOW it works BUT the screen goes black while I am typing, especially if I hit the Control button on the left side of the keyboard. The COMPUTER itself become non-responsive sound continues. Space bar brings it back

  • @EPhoenix117 Really? I was thinking about buying a Vizio too

  • wtf i bought vizio tv and this shit did't even last fucking 24 hours

thats why i'm here watching this video but i can't figure out how to fix it. i'm just going to return this piece shit back

  • i swear i have like 2 samsung hdtvs and one rca for like 2 years and they work great you must of updated it and did something wrong or not take care of it because mine have been siting there and work great people dont take care of there hdtvs
