just bought a 32" vizio to replace a 27" old style tv. I'm scared that this one won't last for 10 years like my old one. these things aren't cheap either.

this exact same thing is happening with my vizio.

i had for a year and a half and nothing happened to it but maybe a power surge or something happened to it

You are lucky, still have the sound and some picture. Mine just went black and nothing worked. Looked at internet and many many people have problems with these TV's. I guess, can be glad that it lasted 2 years.
I miss those older Sony TV's that were costly, but lasted for decades.

cont. However when it is in black screen any video input resets and has to be restarted. I am using a Gateway new computer,(2 months old) with Win 7 premium factory installed.

I am using a Vizio 20" for a computer monitor ( it is a HDTV) via HDMI cable. When I had it hooked up by VGA cable I kept getting a screen that says No connection VGA 8 not supported. My cable technician suggested switching to HDMI cable and at $87 for the cable I did so. NOW it works BUT the screen goes black while I am typing, especially if I hit the Control button on the left side of the keyboard. The COMPUTER itself become non-responsive sound continues. Space bar brings it back
