We were shopping for breakfast with Tashi at the market of Yuksom for the members of the expedition of about 10 people. The money we spent would hardly cover the breakfast of one in Europe.
By the start we see watercress (Nasturtium officinale, L.), formerly also consumed in our country, Hungary. The plant has a high percentage of vitamin C and recent studies suggest that consuming watercress might reduce the chance of cancer.
The second meal is fermentated soy bean packed in a leaf.
The third is peeled cassava root from the family of Euphorbiaceae. (Manihot esculenta).
The fourth one is taro from the Araceae family. (Colocasia esculenta)

Tashival a Yuksomi piacon vásároltunk be reggelire az expedíció tagjainak és a hordároknak (összesen kb 10 embernek) Az elköltött összeg Európában kb 1 ember reggelijét fedezné.
A felvételen először vadon gyűjtött vízitormát (Nasturtium officinale L.) láthatunk, melyet korábban nálunk Magyarországon is fogyasztottak. Magas a C vitamintartalma. Újabb kutatások szerint lehet, hogy a vízitorma fogyasztás csökkenti a rák kialakulásának esélyét.
A második étel: levélbe (NEM MŰANYAGZACSKÓBA VAGY DOBOZBA!) csomagolt erjesztett szójabab.
A harmadik hámozott manióka avagy cassava gyökér a kutyatejfélék családjából Manihot esculenta Euphorbiaceae
A negyedik tárógyökér a kontyvirágfélék családjából Colocasia esculenta Araceae.

  • One thing I have heard about taro that it MUST be cooked or else it will cause indigestion and the sap can irritate your skin. It's interesting to see that cassava is a relative of the pointsetta.
