Visit to Phuphaphet Cave (also known as Phu Pa Pet Cave) in Satun, Thailand in November 2010.
It is the largest cave in Thailand and the 7th largest in the world.
The guide who showed us around discovered this new part of the cave about 19 years ago together with a monk who search for a new place to meditate. This part is much more accessable and easier to walk, although it took a while before all paths were cleared.
The cave is named for its sparkling formations. They look like diamonds glittering in the white shapes. 'Tham Phuphaphet' means 'Diamond Mountain Cave'. The cave was previously known by a couple of different names like 'Tham Lot' and 'Tham Lao'.
The cave is 50 rai in size (around 20 acres) and we walked around for 1 1/2 hour....
