@111jasy111 As Oliver Cromwell said as recently as November 1647 in St Marys church durng the Putney debates....."We should have such rulers as those who govern in accordance with the ancient laws, liberties and customs of the land" I think that pretty much excludes having British citizens governed by the forces of Argentina against their expressed wishes. Since the islands have been British since 25th Jan' 1765 it's difficult to see what the Argentine claim is based on.
@rupertbrooks0 For your information please note that UN Resolution 1514 (XV) recognizes the desire the end of colonialism in all its manifestations. There hasn't been not even one governor in the islands that was from the islands, always from England. A colonial outpost in the 21st Century. The UN Decolonization Committee is aware of the irregular situation there, and like the OAS incluiding Chile, Brazil, Mexico and the US, and G77 + China, urges the UK to enter talks and solve the issue.
@rupertbrooks0 Your argentinian friend should be aware that he can get married in Argentina and have complete full rights unlike in the UK where only a loose discriminatory term called 'civil union' is possible. Argentina is the only Latin American country where same-sex marriage is completely equal as hetero marriage. The only countries like Argentina are Belgium, Canada, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Sweden.
@rupertbrooks0 "Britain is one of the least racist, most liberal and tolerant societies on earth." HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Tell me another joke please!!!
@111jasy111 Wrong. Britain is one of the least racist, most liberal and tolerant societies on earth. As my gay Argentinian friend says when he's walking along the streets of London holding hands with his black boyfriend "you can't do this in Corrientes" Even football supportors find it unacceptable to chant racist comments during matches. In the UK even the police are unarmed. They certainly don't throw nuns out of helicopters! or murder 30,000 of their own people!
@111jasy111 For your information please note the following: UN Resolution 1514 (XV). Declaration on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples: 14 December 1960. Article 2. "All peoples have the right to self-determination; by virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development". The people of the Falklands have freely expressed their desire to remain British in free association with the UK.
@rupertbrooks0 You mean cleanse ethnically like the UK did in the 70s with the Chagos Islanders? Oh and still in the 21st century the UK goverment BANS them to return to their homeland! You tell me where is their self determination right. In the trashcan, right? And you know that's only because they are black native people, unlike white British invadors in Malvinas. UK = most racist and hypocrite country ever.
@111jasy111 No Argentinian has ever explained exactly what they would do to the Falkland Islanders if they were ever to get their hands on the islands. Why not? It is now clear that had Argentina won the war they would have ethnically cleansed the islands by force and expelled them all. Is that still the policy?
