This is an excerpt from a clinic Alex did in LA in 1984. He gives his thoughts and opinions on the pipe band snare and the ever increasing push toward a higher pitch. Remember this was taken from a VHS tape that's almost a quarter of a century old. So the picture quality isn't exactly HD!
@drummist69
I was at this clinic. I was a new drummer at the time, and 2/3 of everything he said went over my head, but I remember it well. I'm glad *somebody* recorded it.

i remember introducing alex duthart to the prototype of the andante drum many years ago playing in Moneygore at a compitition in glenrothes He was a gentleman and showed great enthusiasm for this new concept. You should have seen the look on Sam Hodgons face as i played for Alex round the back of the bus . I was in my element playing probably some nonsense for the greatest drummer on earth. Alex took a go and sam nearly dropped to the dirt that alex was playing this concept drum of his.Merv.

Among other things, about 2 octaves "sharper" than where he left off. :-)
