Brunswick Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, NJ hosted this year's US Open bowling tournament. Here's part 2 of the second stepladder match. The defending champion Bill O'Neill takes on fourth seeded Ryan Shafer.
come on ppl obviously O'Neill is still a great bowler but that doesn't mean that Shafer is a bad bowler or not a class act. He def showed compassion towards O'Neill and he was visibly struggling with his game early on, so you take the Brooklyn's mind you he only got one but yeah he couldn't get right of the head pin. So he adjusted some things in the break and pulled himself together to throw 3 in the 10th to put pressure on O'Neill and O'Neill by that point could no longer hit pocket.
How is Shafer a class act? He gets really lucky. Hes an ok bowler compared to Chris Barnes, Mika Koivuneimi, and of course Bill O'neal. But thats not the point, the point is he not a class act. I heard him course, say gods name in vein and on top of that not show a lot of respect for Bill. Bill is 10 years younger and 10 times better. Bill got robbed.
Yea, I see Shafer as a good guy who just really doesn't translate well on TV. Sometimes jokes or comments that you make when you are bowling during the week don't sound right when they are said on TV.
I don't know if Ryan showed any class, but the Mika comment was awful, his shots in the first 6-7 frames as well. Shocking end! And the 4-6-7 is an impossible split.Brian Voss converted it 6-7 years ago with a lot of luck against PDW. I feel really bad for Bill, such a great and talented guy, being robbed like this! :((
ryan is a class act. he may not have a charismatic personality, but he showed lots of class by being more concerned about bill's loss than his win. what a fighter too.
