Filmed by the Lumiere Brothers, this is said to be the first thing ever filmed in Chicago. Can anyone recognize the building? My best guess is that it's Bridewell Prison (too dark to be the coliseum). I thought it might be the Chicago Day Parade in October, 1896, but I think it was actually earlier than that.

  • bunch of fags

  • Haha, great video!

  • @drumroll79 Because that's the point, right?

  • boring.

  • I only saw three guys in that crowd without a mustache!

  • Definitely looks like the original Cook County "Bridwell" at 26 & Cal. Same arch design on the windows and corner cupola type thing. Torn down and replaced in the 1920's.

Coliseum was not only lighter in color but it had flagstone type limestone facing. I remember going there in the early 60's.

Most jails in the US back then were called Bridwell after "The Bridwell" in London

  • nice video. lol notice how they all have the same mustache, wonder how that happened :D

  • Wow, @adamselzer where did you get this? And thank you.
