I like what x-phi is doing but I wouldn't burn that chair. Every philosopher needs it.
-
@themoderncreation yes, it is like a revist of socrates-style philosophy. philosophy engaged if you will.
-
@SlightlyInsane69 sure, philosophy can be purely abstract, but it is not confined to such abstracts as free will, political philosophy for example has led to every significant revolution, moral philosophy has helped underpin our western cultural norms when it comes to morality, etc. the effects of philosophy can be subtle, but it is a beautiful and necessary expression of human reason. not to mention all of science basically branced off of philsophy and the two are still deeply connected today.

its a statement about armchair philosophy, it is advocated experimental philosophy which entails "getting off the armchair" if you will, and doing something, hence the armchair burning, and the lack of a philosopher upon it...

@waltonky PHI 495? No, I am a student though.
-
@lambchop660 PHI 495 student?
-
@SlightlyInsane69 Yes.

What is this supposed to prove, that fire burns couches?
I'm inclined to think that if philosophers really did demolish the arm chair, we'd just end up building it again. I'm not sure that conceptual analysis is something we'll ever be rid of.

I find it funny, how experimental philosophy relies on analytical philosophy. Without analytical philosophy, there is no experimental philosophy. The idea of replacing analytical philosophy is impossible as it directly deals with language, the most fundamental of all aspects of life. You cannot run an experiment without knowing what the terms mean.
