@googie64 Amen brother. I'll drink to that. The reason oil prices are rising is because we are running out. Oil will be around for the next few hundred years but what we are running out of is cheap, easy to find and pump oil. People think that oil is rising due to "greedy speculators" which is false. Gas is pretty cheap in America compared to other countries and it's only going to get worse
It's so sad that so many people are unaware of the reality of oil. If you read comments on rising oil price news- the ignorance (or willful ignorance) is alarming.
BIG OIL closing down over 50% of US east coast refining capacity by July 2012. Rationing without calling it rationing. Tells the situation is very dire. A 495,000 bpd in St Croix closing, a major supplier to east coast. Don't worry military & big oil are well aware of the peak oil situation. Don't matter that few understand peak oil, military & big oil do understand and they will save the Western world, may be.
@eyewarnedyou The most optimistic estimate is that there are 24 billion barrels that are recoverable. Saudi Arabia estimates it has about 260 bbl that is currently recoverable. The US uses 7 bbl per year. We could burn through Bakken in three years if we wanted to.
Abiotic oil is a myth. Oil is FINITE, not infinite.
ANWR is estimated to hold about 10 billion barrels of oil. At our present consumption rate this will by itself supply the US with oil for approximately 500 DAYS. So when you hear the politicians say "Drill baby, drill" they are saying destroy a pristine wildlife refuge for 500 days worth of oil. Very short sided.
