I must admit that I find Frollo very attractive.

When this movie came out in theaters in 1939, an 8 year old boy from Boston heard that line & was not ashamed to cry. He identified deeply with the "alienated loner" that Quasimodo is, & a seed was planted within him.

26 years later, that same boy portrayed one of the best known and loved, if not THE best known and loved alien being ever created, and part of his inspiration was this movie.

That boy? His name was Leonard Nimoy.

That alien he portrayed? Mr. Spock on Star Trek.

Charles Laughton is the greatest character actor of the 20th century or any century. This is my favorite version of Hunchback due to his heart rending portrayal. To be so transformed by makeup and prosthetics and yet express the tragedy of the loneliness and rejection in his life. To show the love he feels and the betrayal he experiences. Laughton is just amazing in this role. Thanks for posting!

@theweirdgirloverther Frollo does not exactly have Esmeralda's best interests at hearts and he doesn't stub Phoebus in order to protect Esmeralda from being taken advantage of. He stubs Phoebus so that he can be the one who will sleep with her instead. And he actually tried to blackmail her into agreeing thanks to the fact that she was in jail and facing execution because of something he did. Phoebus is a rascal but did not force her. So it's really Frollo who tried to take advantage of her.
