Pervez Musharraf Resignation Speech (August 18, 2008 - 1pm) - COMPLETE with ENGLISH subtitles (Part 4/10)

Prior to speech, there was media speculation either way and it was not clear for much of the speech what he would say.
Masterful management of secrecy of the outcome.
Nail-biting speech revealed Musharraf's decision at the very end.

Musharraf had two choices:
1) challenge the impeachment (hard to make stick)
2) resign to avoid a prolonged process - since the incompetent government would have trouble prosecuting (they had not even revealed charges, or defined the process for impeachment)

In my opinion he was less of a problem for the incompetents as President. Now he will be freer to criticize them. I predict he will join or start a political party (most probably with Sheikh Rasheed and others).

I suggest that you too have a good look at Pakistan's economy the last 9 years under Mush and Shortcut Aziz. Read what think tanks said about consumerism, borrowing and foreign aid in the absence of building the basics of the economy.The whole world was in an economic upspin until late but Pakistan didn't really grow because our military doesn't know about economics. Why can't you let them focus on defending our borders and let the burocrats do what they're supposed to.

Being "thullay" to IMF and NOT being under IMF program ? Is it not the role of a leader to think of the welfare of the people instead of just plunging the people into war at every opportunity.

You may not agree with Musharraf's every policy, but ignoring realities does nothing to improve your argument.

Maybe you should focus on some of the other points (some of which may have some validity).

I dispute your figures but asuming I accept it, is it any compensation for destablizing Pakistan- No! If Zardari now presides while Pak's aid is tripled, will you sing his praises as being very clever and working for Pakistan- I certainly hope not! These are circumstances thrust upon the nation. When Mush first took over, no one in the world wanted to see him. He was trying to invite himself everywhere and no leader would see him. 9/11 changed everything.
