1947 directed by Henry Hathaway, Richard Widmark in the scene that won him an Oscar nomination and made him a star with Mildred Dunnock, Script by Ben Hecht, Charles Lederer, from story by Eleazar Lipsky. Starring Victor Mature, Richard Widmark, Brian Donlevy. Lipsky and Richard Widmark received Oscar Nominations. Jame Agee Wrote: It illustrates a new and vigorous trend in US film moviemaking. One of the bst things that is happening in Hollywood is the tendency to move out of the studio to base ficional pictures on fact and to shoot them not in painted studio sets but in actual places.

Actress Mildred Dunnock who was Nominated Supporting Actress, Baby Doll 1956 & Death of a Salesman 1951 was the Godmother to Italian-American actress Maria Tucci. Was a schoolteacher before becoming an actress. Originated the role of Big Mama in the 1956 Broadway version of Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
