Big Lizard (Water Monitor) like a Komodo Dragon on Road in Thailand

Big lizard - water monitor on the side of the road in Thailand as I drive around this mountain looking for monitors and other snakes and lizards. Thiland water monitors are just like komodo dragons. A bit smaller.

that actually might be a "black dragon". at least i believe that is the common term for them, as far as i could see the markings were the same and they are close relatives to the water monitor if im not mistaken. but a different species none the less. if this is so, this was a rare sight from what i have heard. But this was definitely not a Asian water monitor, nor a water monitor which there is a difference in markings and temperament. i own an asian water monitor personally.

I looked it up and found a number of sites calling it a Malayan Water Monitor... it does look at bit different from the Asian water monitors...

that might be a mertens' water monitor, they are considerably smaller than the asian/malayan water monitors, and look a little different

when i went to thailand and went to the park there were so many big fat ones there

you am not alone that see that animal,they are big.y have see that animal about 1.5 year ago.
