A work process consists of the steps required to produce a result. Organization's typically don't make their work processes specific enough. A clearly defined work process is not about telling people what to do, it's about getting detailed input from the people who do the work effectively. Clearly defined work processes set a standards which are set by (not for) the people closest to the work. Better work processes improve communication, continuity, training and troubleshooting.
