Bridging the Gaps

'Bridging the Gaps' is a youth-led media project that ran for six months between April and September 2011, that addresses the ongoing changes to welfare and benefits in England. The project was led by the Octavia Foundation, with funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

The project provided practical training and experience in film-making for the nine young people that took part and will create awareness of the possible impact of changes to welfare and benefits.

The resulting 10 minute film and accompanying information booklet considers the impact of the possible changes to welfare and benefits in an accessible format and was produced to improve awareness of, and discussion about the possible impact of the changes in the local community.

Many of these changes are still being discussed, with pilot tests underway in some parts of the country. Many of the proposed reforms are not expected to begin until 2013.
